Jack Burgers is a sociologist and full professor of urban studies at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He lectured at the Universities of Tilburg and Utrecht, and at the Academy of Architecture in Tilburg. In 1998, he was Visiting Fellow at The Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna, Austria. On behalf of the Netherlands, he participated in two EU ”COST Actions” and in the 5th-Framework project ”UGIS”. He was a member of the editorial board of leading Dutch journals of social science and spatial planning. His is (co) author of papers and books on the local consequences of economic restructuring, migration and integration, urban renewal and local policies, the use and meaning of public space, housing and residential mobility, urban culture and leisure.
Jan Vranken has been an Emeritus Full Professor since 2009. He will be a member of our Advisory Board and as such is associated to Erasmus University. He obtained a PhD in political and social sciences and spent his academic career at the University of Antwerp (1968 to 2009). He taught courses on general sociology, on the sociology of inequalities, on social problems, on urban sociology and on poverty and social exclusion in Antwerp, Maastricht and Cologne. He founded the Centre OASeS (Centre on Poverty, Social Exclusion and the City), of which he remains a member. Also, he works as an individual expert (CASUM). His projects cover a broad range of topics relate with exclusion and urban studies. Besides his academic engagements, he chaired the Steering Committee on Labour Market Policies of the Flemish Government (1994–2012) and remains the chair of the Board of WEB (Work Experience Enterprises – a social economy consortium).
Irene Molina is a Professor in Social and Economic Geography at the University of Uppsala, Sweden.
