About the Project
A comparative and applied oriented analysis of neighbourhood-related policies promoting interethnic coexistence in European cities.
Project Focus
ICEC examines neighbourhood-related policies that aim to support interethnic coexistence in diverse urban areas. The work is comparative and applied, looking closely at how local policy measures play out in specific neighbourhoods across three European cities.
The project is led by the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Institute for Urban and Regional Research, based in Vienna, and brings together teams from Amsterdam, Stockholm, and Vienna to study shared questions through local case studies.
A Collaborative Effort
Research is carried out jointly by partner institutions in three cities, each contributing local neighbourhood case studies and expertise in urban planning and human geography:
- University of Amsterdam, Department of Human Geography, Planning and International Development.
- KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Department of Urban Planning and Environment, Stockholm.
- Austrian Academy of Sciences, Institute for Urban and Regional Research, Vienna (lead partner).
More detail on the people involved is available on the Team page.
Connection to JPI – Urban Europe
ICEC is linked to JPI – Urban Europe, situating its neighbourhood-level research within a wider European effort to understand and address challenges in urban areas. This connection frames the project's comparative design across Amsterdam, Stockholm, and Vienna and its attention to practical, policy-relevant findings.
